As of tomorrow, we have been in our house for two weeks already. And yes, you read that right, our HOUSE!
Here is the story as to how we moved into a house...
Britnee, Kelsee and I arrived in Baza on the 23rd of September after dragging all of our luggage onto two different busses and traveling for about five hours. When we finally got here, we decided we would first go get our cell phones and then walk around the city to write down the phone numbers we saw posted and to see where we wanted to live in the city. It's really strange, but the way you look for apartments is by walking around and looking for "se aquila" or, "for rent" signs posted.
After an afternoon of walking around and doing this, we decided to relax and enjoy the rest of the evening and then put more of an active effort in the next day.
Fast forward to Saturday morning. We start making phone calls and putting our phone numbers in different websites online. About an hour after we put our numbers online, Kelsee got a call from Oscar. Oscar told us that he would meet us at our hotel in about 15 minutes and he would bring us to see a place that we would really like.
Okay, this seemed a little sketchy, but we figured, apparently this is how they do it in Spain.
Of course, we waited about a half hour (typical Spanish time...) and Oscar shows up at our hotel and brings us across the city to a house. We stand at the door for a while, waiting for someone to meet us there, but she wasn't here. Then, he showed us an apartment that was nearby, but it was not very nice and we didn't feel too good about it. After he showed us this apartment, we made a plan to meet with him and 5pm Monday to see this house. He told us we were going to absolutely love it and we had to see it.
He walks us back to the hotel, we thank him, go to our rooms and not even 15 minutes later, Oscar knocks on Britnee & Kelsee's door and tells them that we can go see the house now. We get back up and follow him back to the house where we meet Pura, the landlord and she shows us the house.
We fall in love.
It is absolutely beautiful. There is a large entrance on the ground floor, the first floor has a spacious kitchen (oven and washing machine included), a living room stretched across the whole length of the house and has lots of natural light, a bathroom and an extra room with two tables and chairs. The second floor has four bedrooms with really nice furniture and two bathrooms, then on the very top there are two terraces.
I repeat. We fall in love.
We do not want to agree right away, because we are not supposed to take the first place we look at, and it seemed too good to be true. So we tell Pura & Oscar that we will let them know what we think in the next two days.
We decide that we definitely want it and we couldn't wait, so we call Oscar back first thing the next morning.
Oscar tells us that we can move in either Monday or Tuesday. Monday we manage to do a little grocery shopping while we anxiously wait for a call from him. He finally calls and tells us that at 8:30pm we will go over to the house and sign our contract. So we enjoy the day, getting excited about our new house and then we get a call around 5:30pm and he tells us that he will be at the hotel to pick us up at 6:15pm.
In a whirlwind, we pack up all of our stuff, move it into Oscar's sketchy van that actually breaks down on the way to the house, and finally made it safely to the house that evening. The first day, we figured out that Oscar was actually a real estate agent and we had to pay him half a month's rent, but it was worth it because we are totally in love with our house and the price was totally right.
